Pharmacogenomics and Genomic Medicine Group

ABOUT US

The Pharmacogenomics and Genomic Medicine Group (PGMG) conducts research in pharmacogenomics, pharmacology and the genomic basis of disease in African populations. Our work spans natural product drug discovery, drug metabolism and genomic susceptibility to disease.

We particularly seek to:

    • Understand genomic variation in drug response across African populations
    • Characterise host immune genetics and how it shapes infectious disease outcomes and progression
    • Identify genomic signatures associated with non-syndromic sporadic congenital heart defects
    • Map the genomic architecture of rare diseases
    • Explore how the pharmacomicrobiome influences disease outcomes and response to treatment

Our overarching goal is to translate our findings into better treatment and management for patients. Working with our collaborators, we study human biological samples, including blood, serum, plasma and stool, to answer these questions.
